Amber Rubarth won the Grand Prize in this year’s NPR Mountain Stage New Song Contest, giving her the great opportunity to record her newest release with Grammy-Award winning producer Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Kings of Leon). The album is set for release on August 23, 2011 followed by nationally syndicated performance on NPR’s Mountain Stage. Her songs have attracted enthusiastic praise from NPR's All Songs Considered, The Huffington Post, BBC Radio, Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and a Sun Studio Session now airing nation-wide on PBS.
"With songs both quirky and endearingly candid, Amber Rubarth is a refreshing talent on the rise. As illustrated on her third and latest LP, Good Mystery, she complements a gentle folk/pop vibe with a storyteller's engagement and the unassuming, often akward charm of a girl you wished lived next door." -BlogCritics.
At 21 years old, Amber decided to put aside her career as a chainsaw sculptor in Nevada in order to pursue music. She taught herself guitar, started playing open mics, and began touring throughout the US, Europe and Japan. New fans told their friends, and soon her songs had received over 1.5 million plays on MySpace. Many concerts began to sell out and she was asked to share the stage with such greats as Loudon Wainwright III, Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Colin Hay, Martin Sexton and Lisa Loeb. Rubarth now composes for films as well, most recently composing all music with Paul Brill for the highly acclaimed Sundance Film Festival winner "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work." She is also one half of Brooklyn's buzz band The Paper Raincoat, an iTunes Indie Spotlightfeature.

November 23. Thanksgiving's Eve. 11-23-11. Forever engrained as one of the most magical days of my life. Jason Mraz invited me to be his special guest at Carnegie Hall. Sold out. Tiers and tiers of beautiful people, dressed to the nines. A beautiful reverence in the air.
I have a lot of dreams in my life. This was a big one come true. Singing with Jason Mraz in a cardboard box would be spectacular, singing with him at Carnegie Hall was top of the tree. Or more like floating in outer space. Best Thanksgiving gift ever. I am soaked in gratitude.
My favorite moment was singing our new movie love song "Rated Ours" together unplugged at the old timey microphone. I am so grateful, still glowing. Here a VIDEO (thank you!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRLs-KawDZE

------- PINCH ME COLLABORATIONS + VIDEOS!
I am constantly pinching myself because this feels like a wonderful dream (don't wake me up!) I just got back from a dreamy week in Florida with Martie Maguire & Emily Robison, the founding ladies of Dixie Chicks / Court Yard Hounds! We wrote new songs together, had some wonderful times, and I got to watch them play a beautiful concert at my new favorite Florida spot, Studio B in Alys Beach, on a stage built over a swimming pool. I also got the huge honor to play a couple of my songs with Martie on fiddle and Emily singing, along with two other artists I'm newly in love with, Billy Harvey and Tyler Lyle. So much fun!!! Such a huge huge thank you to Emily and Martie for putting this together. I love them so much. Video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mn9VtIFM0g
I also got a nice surprise when Jason Mraz joined me on stage a few weeks ago at the Hotel Cafe! We sang two songs we wrote together, "Mirror" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_-vGysrl1w (on my new album with his golden voice!) and a brand new one called "Rated Ours" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMUXci0aUeU which was the most fun song ever to write! Check out the videos here, big thank you to Philly and the RKOP for posting! Jason is one of the most glowing human beings I've had the honor to meet, check out his website often to see some of the new incredible things he's doing.....

Hello loveliest of lovelies!!
It's the perfect day here, woke up to a layer of fog suspending over the creek, watched it crawl its way up and has since been weaving in and out of the trees and leaving a magical stillness surrounding everything. Simply perfect.
So..... a bunch of exciting things here to share, yay!
1) Tomorrow SEPT 22 I play NEW YORK CITY @ THE LINCOLN CENTER! Dreamy as all heck. And the best part for you? Free, all ages. Come one, come all. Grab people off the streets! p.s. The new album title is "A COMMON CASE OF DISAPPEARING." The album has two major themes throughout it: Reflections and Light. A common case of disappearing is about what we discover in reflections of ourselves and others. How we run away from light, search for it again, learn to find our way without it, and ultimately find a guide from within. It's an ongoing cycle of the brightening and fading and rediscovering of our own true self. And using disappearing as a way of dealing with things that we don't otherwise know how to deal with. Disappearing from the world into the self, disappearing from the self into the world or another person. And through this cycle of disappearing and reappearing, searching and losing and finding again, we polish up our mirror and hold it to the light to see more clearly and reflect back and forth with others. And we hold the mirror into light from different angles to see other sides of the world around us that we wouldn't otherwise be able to see from where we are standing. And when the sun's light disappears, the moon reflects a softer version of its light down for us to see....
Aaahhhh, sweet morning ramblings. I am excited to share the new music with you (if you can't tell). Be well out there. Big humongous love. xx

Hello lovely friends,
I am officially stuck in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York. All the roads are flooded, power lines down, entire bridges washed away. I'm safe and grateful for being safe, but sad that the LOS ANGELES CONCERT TONIGHT @ HOTEL CAFE HAS BEEN CANCELED. My town has no power or water or phone lines, and lots of flooding and damage, a small hiccup in the overall happenings up the coast.
Luckily, I really enjoy candlelit rooms and starry skies in the country... and I filled up a few big glass jugs with water so I'm fine.
Sending love to all the people who are dealing with the damage. Please take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
Will let you know as soon as we can reschedule, I am really looking forward to sharing the new songs with you all, and the band we had together for LA tonight was a really really special one. Will make it happen again soon. And the NYC SHOW AT THE LINCOLN CENTER ON 9/22 IS STILL ON as scheduled.
xx Amber
